Into The Mountains

“The mountains are calling and I must go.”
~John Muir, 1873

Taking in the view.

It’s been a very long time since I’ve been in the mountains. Really, really up in the mountains. A few years ago, I spent most of my summer travelling hither and thither (what a phrase!) up into Taiwan’s high mountain ranges.

But life has a way of settling down on you sometimes, like a thick layer of dust. And so the mountains seemed so far away and so… “Been there done that.” Even though, in Taiwan at least, there are always new mountains to climb, and favourites to be revisited.

We hiked in the valley today, in the shadows of Taiwan’s greatest peaks. We made it to Cloud Dragon Waterfall (雲龍瀑布), and were reminded once again just how peaceful and impressive these remote hills are. Dongpu Village isn’t even that hard to get to, as far as mountain villages go!

My soul feels a little bit fuller today. I hope we won’t go so long without a dose of mountains and Big Impressive Nature again.

Where do you go to fill your soul? What’s calling you?
